Antenatal Care and Routine Tests during Pregnancy – patient information to assist informed consent
This patient education pamphlet provides treatment information on antenatal care and the routine tests performed during pregnancy. The antenatal tests discussed include:
- Blood tests and urine tests
- Cervical tests, such as the cervical screening test (CTS) and cervical swabs
- Maternal serum screening
- Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT)
- Amniocentesis and chorionic villi sampling (CVS)
Ultrasound examinations, diabetes screening and screening for group B streptococcus (GBS) are also mentioned.
This leaflet can be a useful tool for pregnant women as it outlines many different aspects of pregnancy and antenatal care. Important lifestyle factors that contribute to antenatal care are also discussed, such as a healthy diet, appropriate exercise, correct food preparation and not smoking.
Antenatal care and the routine tests performed during pregnancy are described in plain English to assist the patients’ understanding of health information and to help patients make informed decisions. The Obstetrics and Gynaecology patient information leaflets are printed in five-colour on high-quality A4 sheets.
