Endodontic Surgery – patient information to assist informed consent
This ADA patient education pamphlet provides dental information on endodontic surgery.
Endodontic surgery is discussed for patients needing dental treatment for the following reasons:
- Treatment of infection that cannot be treated with a root canal
- To clean and fill the end of narrow canals following root canal treatment
- Taking a biopsy
- Treating problems in the surrounding bone or tooth root
- Re-treating a tooth
This leaflet can be a useful tool for patients considering undergoing endodontic surgery as the apicectomy and retrograde root (or “root-end”) filling procedure is described in detail. Other endodontic procedures described include: periapical curettage (or apical curettage), hemisection, root resection and intentional replantation. The possible complications of endodontic surgery are also listed.
Mi-tec publishes 31 Australian Dental Association patient information brochures. The dental information is written in plain English to assist the patients’ understanding of health information and to help patients make informed decisions. The ADA patient information brochures are printed in five-colour on high-quality A4 sheets.
